JOB DESCRIPTION – The Choirmaster/Director works with the Rector as primary coordinator for the Music Ministry to lead a vibrant music program that enhances worship and nurtures the spiritual life of our congregation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong musical leadership, a passion for ministry, and the ability to engage the congregation in meaningful worship through music.
The Choir performs for the 10:00 am Sunday mass, from the first Sunday after Labor Day through to Pentecost Sunday, including Holy Week services as determined by the Rector. This is a part-time position and the incumbent will need a minimum of three hours weekly to address key responsibilities, not exceeding 10 hours weekly during times of special services.
Duties to commence as determined at time of hire in consultation with Clergy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Selection of Hymns and Anthems appropriate for the Lectionary Calendar
• Plan, coordinate, and lead music for Sunday services, special services (e.g., Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter), and other church services as requested by the Rector.
• Collaborate with the Rector and organist/accompanist to align music with the liturgical calendar themes
MUSICAL DIRECTION
• Direct and rehearse the adult choir, and instrumentalists (on special occasions) in preparation for Sunday services, and other special non-Sunday services.
• Recruit, and mentor vocalists of varying skill levels, as needed to maintain choir size and vocal effectiveness.
• Incorporate a variety of musical styles suitable to the size and ability of the adult choir, including traditional hymns, anthems, and/or contemporary worship songs, as appropriate to highlight worship.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
• Manage the music ministry budget, including purchasing music, managing section support compensation, and managing instrumentalist compensation as needed.
• Maintain the church’s music library
• Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates to choir members.
Participate in planning meetings as requested by the Rector
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in music (preferred), Music Ministry, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proficiency in vocal/church choral music, with the ability to lead rehearsals and conduct musical ensembles.
• Familiarity with Christian/Episcopal worship traditions and an understanding of liturgical practices.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience with diverse musical styles and their application in worship.
• Able to accompany on the organ/piano when organist/accompanist is unavailable.
• Passion for discipleship and mentoring others in their musical and spiritual growth.
Comments:
This position is a regular part-time position that serves at the discretion of the Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, New Albany, Ohio.
Compensation is $20,000/yr for the time period commitment described above.
