The Power of Harmony Foundation is looking for individuals interested in teaching a weekly vocal music class ot incarcerated youth (males ages 13-20) at Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility in Massillon, Ohio. The sessions are one hour at 6:15pm on Tuesday evenings inside the facility.
Power of Harmony educators introduce, encourage, and teach vocal music, meeting the youth ‘where they are’. The goal is to increase their appreciation of music, encourage creativity and help the youth reap the emotional, mental, and physical benefits of singing. Each weekly class is an hour long with two (2) instructors. We favor a culturally-responsive pedagogy to “meet them where they are” and encourage our youth to live their music in every session.
We form youth ensembles and work toward performances inside the prison (graduation ceremonies, family days, worship services, etc.).
This can be an 'occasional' assignment if you prefer, helping every other week or once/month if you're unvailable every Tuesday evening. Educators receive a $100/session stipend and are reimbursed $.40/mile for travel to/from the facility.

Qualifications:
Teaching certificate in music education is desired but not required. Graduate students or college students working toward their degree are great candidates, too! Excellent practical experience and resume builder!
