Distinguished Service Award (DSA)


The OMEA Distinguished Service Award is the highest award conferred by the association and is presented at our annual professional development conference. This award recognizes an OMEA member for outstanding service to music education.

We invite you to help recognize an OMEA member who has made a significant difference in the lives of others through distinguished leadership as a music educator.

Please complete this form and attach the nominee’s resume, a letter addressing the nominee’s qualifications focusing on the specific criteria below and supporting letters from individuals who have observed the nominee in professional settings.

OMEA Distinguished Service Award Criteria

1. Teaching Impact:
Provide evidence of success as an outstanding teacher, including such things as developing and maintaining a strong and positive music education program in the school or college/university in which the nominee is or was employed; engaging with students using a variety of innovative and creative strategies; collaborating with colleagues, community members, and school administrators in ways that enhance student learning and growth.

2. Service:
Provide evidence of service to the music education profession including such things as elective offices; committee assignments; leadership in implementing special projects through OMEA, NAFME, other professional organizations; and community based endeavors.

3. Professional Outreach/ Achievement:
Provide evidence of the nominee’s distinguished contributions to the music education profession through such activities as achieving  prominence as a clinician, adjudicator, guest conductor, author, performer; receiving educational or community-based awards/recognition; serving as a consultant; implementing imaginative and novel educational/artistic opportunities for students and teachers.
