Outstanding Young Music Educator


The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor an OMEA member for excellence in music education who has been teaching between three and eight years. Nominations must be submitted by an OMEA member. Please assist OMEA in recognizing young music educators for their outstanding service, dedication, and overall contribution to music education by nominating them for this award. All nominations must be submitted no later than November 1st to be considered for this award. The OMEA Board of Trustees will make their selection and the award recipient will be notified by December 1st. The award will be presented at the OMEA Professional Development Conference.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. The nominee must be a member in good standing with OMEA and must agree to be present at the annual OMEA State Professional Development Conference to receive the award.
2. The nominee must be actively teaching in Ohio.
3. The nominee must be in his/her third through eighth year of teaching.
4. The nominee should contribute personal effort and time beyond the normal teaching duties in promoting music education and the arts in his/her school system, community, region, and/or state.
5. A resume of the nominee must be included with the nomination, and must include education and employment history.
6. At least three letters of recommendation (collected by the primary nominator) must accompany the official nomination. Letters should include the following sources:
• A district/school administrator from the nominee’s current teaching position.
• An OMEA music educator who has knowledge of the nominee’s work in the classroom.
• Community members, parents, or colleagues.
7. Letters of recommendation should answer the following questions, please be brief but specific.
• In what ways has the nominee demonstrated by example the basic principles and characteristics of an
outstanding music educator, and promise for sustaining contributions for educational leadership?
• In what ways does the nominee evidence excellence in music-making?
• How has the nominee’s teaching made an impact on students?
• How has the nominee shown motivation toward professional growth and involvement?
